NW TO ACTIVATE ROAD SAFETY AND LAW ENFORCEMENT EASTER
OPERATIONS

anagement, Dr
Mpho Motlhabane, joined by the National Minister of
Transport, Mr Joe
Maswanganyi will officially activate the 2017 Road
Safety and Law
Enforcement Easter Operations.
During the event that is scheduled to take place in
the Rustenburg
Municipality, the Minister and MEC will be joined b
y Faith-Based
Organisations who will conduct prayers in four diff
erent areas identified as
accident hotspot areas.
One of the areas is where the Province recently los
t the lives of eight (8)
people, when the minibus taxi they were travelling
with collided with a
cement truck on the N4 road.
The activation of the Road Safety and Law Enforcemen
t Operations is an
annual campaign aimed at intensifying road safety e
ducation and
increasing traffic officers’ visibility on the road
s.
The operations are meant to reduce road accidents an
d fatalities across all
major roads across the province. These are also inf
ormed by the global UN
Decade of Action for Road Safety campaign aimed at
reducing fatalities by
50% by 2020.
Minister will further address the law enforcement a
nd road safety officials
who form part of the provincial Easter Road Safety
and Law enforcement
operations.
During these operations, the Department joins force
s with all stakeholders
in the transport sector to ensure that the citizens
of the province enjoy road
accident and crime free Easter period.
